Shri Chaitanya Sridhara Sangha

Srila Jagannath das
Babaji Maharaj

Srila Jagannath das Babaji Maharaja was born around 1750 into an aristocratic family in a small village in Tangail, now known as Bangladesh,
He received babaji vaishnava initiation from a disciple of Srila Baladeva Vidyabhusana (a Master of the Brahma-Madhva-Gaudiya Sampradaya) and after practicing the life of renunciation in solitary meditation for years, he was recognized as a perfectly realized soul. In his bhajan kutir (small residence for performing religious practices) in Vrndavana, he sometimes chanted continuously for three days and three nights without eating or sleeping.

In 1880, Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura, (also an important Master of the Brahma-Madhva-Gaudiya Sampradaya) was assigned to a government detachment near the residence of the Babaji, and this allowed him to visit often and accept him as siksa-guru (instructing master) and thus receive devotional instructions.
Subsequently Jagannath das Babaji settled in Kulya, near Nabadwip-dhama, where he spent his time on the banks of the Ganges, chanting the Holy Name of Krishna.
Around 1890, at the invitation of Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura he reached the exact place where Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu appeared, which had just been rediscovered in Nabadwip-dhama. As soon as he arrived, due to the deep spiritual energy that the place emanated, he began to jump and dance in uncontrollable ecstasy, despite his body being over 100 years old and he had not walked for a long time!
This mystical event confirmed the authenticity of the birthplace of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
Regarding the dates of his disappearance there are conflicting testimonies, however it is established that he lived more than 125 years and was known and revered by all devotees, both of Vrndavana and Nabadwip.
